Introduction to the preliminary task

What do we have to do in the preliminary task?

Our preliminary task is to create a short movie between two characters who will exchange a dialogue between them.

What must the preliminary task include:
-The scene must involve one of the characters entering the room
-Character crossing the room
-Meet the other character in the chosen scene and face each other.
-Then the two characters will share a short dialogue with each other.

In the preliminary task we are required to show our understanding of continuity editing. Continuity editing is a style of film and video editing. Continuity editing is used to smooth over the editing progress.

        We should show different camera shots in our movie which are as follows;
              - Shot Reverse Shot
              - Match on action
              -180-degree rule

Shot Reverse Shot

A shot reverse shot usually occurs when there are two characters exchanging dialogue, this  camera shot switches between the characters as they speak to one another. The camera in this shot is always focusing on the character talking.

Match on action
Match on action is where there is a cut in the scene however the character is still moving and this will flow smoothly into the next new cut to make it look as though you are still watching the same shot. If this shot looks strange it could mean that the shot is in the incorrect place and will confuse the audience.

180 degree rule
The 180 degree rule ensures that you can not move the camera more than 180 degrees around the character. This rule is so the audience are not distorted and the characters can not look like they have changed their position from the audience's perspective.
